The city's carbon monoxide levels sometimes get too high which can possibly damage the historical sites. Breathing in the polluted air might also cause negative health conditions. Rome is the largest and most populous city in Italy since it is the capital, home of the Roman Catholic Church, and headquarters of major businesses. It has over 3,000,000 people living there. Over a century ago, there were not even half a million people living in Rome.
